Son of Amaro Borges and nephew of J. Borges, Givanildo is a particularly gifted printmaker. He has developed his own distinctive style of presenting complex narrative scenes in his large-scale wood block prints. Included in Givanildo’s subject matter are images drawn from the Bible and from daily life in the Northeast – the nativity, weddings, and distinctive rural celebrations.
