DOIDÃO
Nephew of Cachoeira’s famous sculptor, Louco, Doidão followed Louco’s example by adopting the artistic name, Doidão, meaning “crazy.” He began carving and managing the sale of family carvings at the Mercado Modelo in Salvador the 1960s but returned to Cachoiera in 1976 and, with his brother Dory, opened an atelier/gallery on the town’s central square. A few years later, Doidão moved away from Cachoeira but continues to carve and has run a gallery in the tourist destination of Praia de Forte for a number of years.
