ZÉ CELESTINO
Zé Celestino was born in Juazerio do Norte. He had little formal education but learned to read and write a little. His grandfather Zé Durarte, a carver, invited him to help make wooden whistles. He began to make ex-votos and other objects in wood. Today Zé Celestino carves figures and complicated scenes of everyday life of the Northeast.
