Babalu and his brother, J.Cunha, began as young artists selling their paintings to tourists in the Pelourinho in the early-1980s. They moved to their present home and studio in Boco do Rio in 1984 and began to show their work through professional galleries, seeking greater national and international recognition for their efforts to integrate art and culture. During the past 30 years, Babalu’s work has been exhibited in many individual and group shows in Salvador and in major cities throughout Brazil.
