A native of Salvador, Nery began making and painting wood plaques for sale in shops and galleries in the 1960s. In 1968, he switched from wood to canvas for his paintings. For more than 25 years, Nery has worked independently as an artist, selling his paintings where he can - offices, shopping centers, banks, fairs, and the street. He genuinely loves his work and draws his inspiration from the “things of Bahia” which he records in their endless variety.
